Context
From 15 to 17 March, the Danube Youth Council (DYC) met in Sofia, Bulgaria for three lively days of learning, exchange, and cooperation. More than a series of meetings, the camp created a space where participants could connect, reflect on shared goals, and shape ideas for stronger youth involvement in macro-regional cooperation in the Danube Region.
From the very first day on, the focus was on building trust, cooperation and helping each other become part of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR), since more than half of them had begun a new mandate.
Ce se schimbă / Ce se anunță
The introductory sessions, given by the Danube Strategy Point, presented the structure of the Danube Youth Council and its connection to the EUSDR, the role of National Coordinators, Priority Area Coordinators, and other key actors. At the same time, DYC members shared their opinions about the reasons they had joined, what they hope to learn, and what they hope to contribute. The atmosphere was open and collaborative, with room for open reflection on what is already working well and what could be improved.
A valuable highlight of the Camp was the exchange with Samanta Brahaj from the EUSAIR Youth Council. This exchange encouraged participants to explore practical ways of working together, from sharing tasks and building thematic groups to using each member’s skills more effectively. The discussions quickly turned into concrete ideas for future joint action, including in areas such as communication and outreach.
The second day brought a strong policy dimension. Participants met Vyara Mincheva, Head of the Bulgarian EUSDR Presidency, who offered useful insight into how the agenda of the EUSDR Presidency is prepared and coordinated. The conversation also opened the door for youth voices to be included more visibly in the upcoming EUSDR Annual Forum. This was followed by a workshop in which participants developed thematic proposals and began shaping position papers to be presented in Priority Area meetings and the upcoming Annual Forum.
Another informative session was led by Elisa Cocco from DG REGIO, who helped integrate the group’s ideas into the broader European context. This session gave participants a clearer understanding of cohesion policy, territorial cooperation, and the links between funding programmes and EU macro-regional strategies. This helped ground the group’s ambitions in a broader institutional framework.
